Val Savill
Val Savill
He’s clearly thrilled we are all keeping memories of the school alive.
His god-daughter Sarah Rhodes-Woollard, herself a former student of the school in 1976, ‘77 & ‘78. She pops back and forth to Monaco to see her god-father from time to time and when I shared the 2 polaroid photos of Mr & Mrs Savill right, she remarked:
“Val keeps that marble pillar in his little apartment in Monaco and I think I’ve also seen the brass bowl there, as well.”
I’m delighted to say Val Savill is very much alive and with us, living in Monaco. The voice you’re hearing now (turn up your volume if you can’t hear it), is Val’s, recorded on the day of our last Reunion.
This photo taken 24th October 2011
It’s so nice that after all these years, Mr Savill retains favourite pieces of furniture with him in his now home, so far from Lightwater. It must have been very painful for him to have seen Paddock Wood be sold and his beautifully designed landscaped estate invaded by bulldozers and workmen.
Mr Savill sadly couldn’t make our Reunion as he’d just moved apartments in Monaco, but he hopes one day to come back to the UK; this is when I’ll open my organising book once again and get us all together for a 2nd, grand reunion.
I’m very grateful to a friend of Val’s, her name is Merrily, for kindly recording the following message from Val on the morning of our Reunion in June 2011. It was a complete surprise to the girls when I played it to them, just before supper; there were one or two damp eyes. The photo you see below of Mr Savill was taken on the morning of our Reunion; as you can see, he’s keeping well and really hasn’t changed a bit. For me, he and his voice are still so recognisable.
